When the Wish to Study Becomes a Reality

Finishing Ordinary Secondary school is a huge milestone. But when the CSEE (Certificate of Secondary Education Examination) results come out in January, even with outstanding grades and an A-level selection, students aren't guaranteed a place in Advanced level because of lack of means.

For many students, the future stays uncertain.

This year, we had room to welcome 6 new scholars: 3 girls and 3 boys.

Where we found them

We partner with Numbers Foundation on two projects, Give Back With Maths and the Mathematical Technical Workshop, which run in 6 local government schools. We knew the best candidates would be among their beneficiaries, and we were right.

What they have in common

All six scored Division 1 and an A in Mathematics. More importantly, they dream big, show resilience, and are determined to break the cycle of poverty they grew up in.

How we chose them

It took two months:

  • Identifying the strongest candidates

  • Visiting their schools and gathering information

  • Meeting the students and their families at home

  • Preparing the sponsorship agreement

  • Shopping for everything they need to start

Where they are now

All six were selected in government schools and started in July. Three are studying PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) and three PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology).

Meet Faith, Goodluck, Caroline, Baraka, Elia and Miriam.
